An important term that is most often used when describing outdoor clothing is DWR. It is an important element of protection against rain. Durable Water Repellency (DWR) is an impregnation of clothing that prevents from quick saturation with water by providing hydrophobic properties. The coating that is added by impregnation into fabrics provides a thin, waterproof layer on which water can flow. A fluoropolymer is the most commonly used agent for this purpose in the factory.

Then DWR coating is a great addition to support the water resistance of fabric. Fabric without DWR impregnation gives the impression of heavy and wet in the rain, even if it has not been soaked. DWR coating technique is a necessity now in order to ensure the appropriate comfort of use.

However, remember that due to improper use or lack of care, DWR layer may be damaged. Following factors have a negative impact on it:

  • oil
  • cigarette smoke
  • other type of pollution
  • washing is also not conducive to it.

Therefore, cleaning and refreshing DWR coating is an important aspect, thanks to which we can enjoy the practical properties of clothing for a long time. However, appropriate detergents should be used for this purpose. When completely renewing the DWR layer, a dedicated spray will be helpful, thanks to which our coating will be as good as new and clothing equipped with DWR will serve us for a long time.
